C-drík/Aluviana – Moje čelo-CD (Syrphe Records)

In French: externalworld.net -- par FROST

There is no need to present C-Drik (Cedrik Fairmont being his true name), a versatile artist also active in the domain of theatre and the dance, as well as on the most experimental scenes.

We thus concentrate on the release in question, realised in duet with Aluviana (underground artist with 2 EPs and some tracks on Syrphe - look no further).

One discovers splendid dark ambient, traditional but with very smooth production; one hence traverses from briskly from oppressive climates to moments of grace worthy of Peter Broderick or Library Tapes, entirely supported by vocal radio interference and other fragments.

The first part of the disc takes advantage of noise ranges or mix programming, while the remaining part is electro minimalist with blips derived from a fine spatial basis.

Speaking in terms of sound palette, the tracklist seems coherent if shuffle play mode is avoided. A special mention must be made of the eponymous track ("Moje Celo"), with the vocoder and the cello interplaying towards a violent moment of industrial poetry.

A perfect disc to play in the last months of the winter, ensconced in an armchair, a glass of red wine in hand.

C-drík/Aluviana – Moje čelo-CD (Syrphe Records)

The press surrounding this release sells it much in the same way you would sell a menu at a restaurant: ambient dishes, industrial dishes, noise peppers and so forth. In all fairness those three descriptions pretty much nail this album on the head. Opener "Trula Struna" is noisy and oppressive, make no bones about it; the rich dark ambient drones and waves are carried along with crushing oscillators that rise slowly and pummel the senses - mercilessly so. There is a massive element of musique concrète here by the time "Larma Akistika" comes about; manipulated tones and the bell of an old grandfather clock alongside its inner workings are driven along, rising and falling in hypnotic waves. Rarely have the workings of such a household object been used in such a sinister fashion.

"Moje Čelo" is pure aural torture, not in the bad sense, mind you - it simply is meant to be this harsh and brutal on your senses. Even when quiet you cannot escape the fact that this is being slowly driven like needles into your brain, and is the perfect backdrop to any self-respecting panic attack. Further reading states that both artists have done this with a fair share of humour. I really am scratching my head at this, unless this duo is completely stark raving bonkers. Either way, funny side or not, this is professionally done and a sure-fire winner for fans of proper old industrial and dark ambient purists. A fine, disturbing listen from start to finish.

C-drík/Aluviana – Moje čelo-CD (Syrphe Records)

The tribulations of the experimental artist Cédrik Fermont lead him to explore various fields. Among other trodden paths, he permanently sets sail on the exponentials of the 'myspace' universe. Randomly, on these virtual travels, he met with the Slovenian Aluviana. A friendly relationship was born, in conjunction with mutual admiration for their respective work. Their mission project: exchange of experiences to test the sound field. The album "Moje čelo" is at the crossroads of the dark ambient and electroacoustic ... The work on the textures is central to the composition. However, the presence of a certain saturation is just to support the sad tapestry and disturbing sentiments of Aluviana. The result is a kind of progressive, melancholic alienation. A collaboration worthy of its initiative: the discovery of the first milestone Slovene ambient music.

Cdrik seems to be one prolific son of a bitch and with each collab he creates a different element comes out of it. With this more its a more dark rhythmic / ethno sound with a very noise and deep dark droning backdrop. If your a fan of Rapoon or lull or even Muslingauze you will very much like this material. Again this is another amazingly tight well produced release where you can hear every tone, sound and effect layered with the utmost respect and craftsmanship. Syrphe seem to like to limit there releases to 300 copies and this seems to be a crime to me as yes your getting it to the true core fans but with a good pr person you could get these wonderful thought provoking sounds out to a lot more an kick the mainstream in its well needed fat ass. Releases like this prove that there is major talent in the experimental world and C-drik needs to be noted and congratulated on material of this caliber!!!!

That Belgium-based composer C-Drik Fermont is an extremely active sound artist can easily by exemplified by the massive number of aliases throughout the years. Since his beginning back in 1989, the Zaire born artist has released a large number of albums under projects such as Axiome, Ammo, Dead Hollywood Stars and Crno Klank just to mention a few of his aliases. That he is also an active collaborator comes clear with the release of the three present albums, all released via Cdrik Fermont's own label Syrphe. First album titled "Moje cello" is the collaboration with Slovanian artist Aluviana, known for his mixture of ambient and noise-related music. The album is a nocturnal beast that takes its starting point in dark ambient. Divided into eight sections the expression during the 60 minutes runtime nicely combines electroacoustic sounds, noisy elements and dronescapes. There is a great atmosphere throughout the album with the casual assistance of distant voices and concrete singing on a few tracks. The title track has a nice creepy feel with some old-school type of electronic patterns reminding me of Orville Stoeber's scary soundtrack to the horror film "Let's scare Jessica to death" (1971).

VA / Pangaea Noise (Compilation CD by Syrphe)

As a follow-up to last years excellent compilation "Beyond ignorance and borders: An African middle eastern Asian noise and electronic compilation", Belgium label Syrphe once more takes the listener on a trip to the lesser known territories of extreme electronic music. Where the first compilation had a stylish wider approach to experimental electronic music, the tracks on this one almost exclusively remains in the loud vein of expressive noise. Still the approach to the harsh sounds is nicely varied and adventurous here. Best moments on the album is the drone-based ambient-noise from Slovenian Aluviana and the Latvian artist Error with his buzzing, beautiful noise track sounding like a symphony of bee swarms. Also the South Korean artist 10 impresses a lot with his weird and very loud track built on noise patterns circulating back and forth between the speakers with a quite hypnotic result and the Iranian artist Nyctalllz that with his work based on subtle noise, manages to create a musical piece of sheer terror and creepy atmospheres. "Pangeae Noise" is another great international compilation from Syrphe, demonstrating that the Noise scene of today still flourishes into new and interesting forms.
